Energy Solutions

Cellula’s long-range autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for the energy sector are changing the paradigm of subsea survey and support by enhanced endurance, automation, and payload delivery capabilities. Their ability to operate over vast distances without human intervention significantly increases operational efficiency and reduces the carbon footprint. Moreover, Cellula’s modular platforms enable bespoke configurations to meet key performance outcomes of our clients.

AUV Energy Benefits

Low Carbon Footprint

Cellula’s zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell system provides endurance and range to facilitate port-to-port operations, removing the need for dedicated support vessels. This significantly increases operational efficiency and reduces the cost of deployment.

Custom Configuration

Cellula’s modular platforms can offer a variety of sensor suite options as well as energy solutions.  Cellula’s strong engineering team collaborates with the client to provide an optimized solution for AUVs in the energy sector.

Adaptive Autonomy

Cellula onboard autonomy provides standard interfaces for various third-party autonomy packages for mission-specific tasks.  By bringing these decisions on board, the mission efficiency increases, and the resultant data more valuable.

Energy Applications

Offshore Survey

  • Geophysical Surveys: Cellula’s long-range AUVs enable long-duration, high-resolution data collection over vast and remote areas, reducing the need for costly ship mobilizations and enhancing the precision of geological assessments. With unparalleled endurance, Cellula’s AUVs can conduct deep-sea geotechnical investigations at sites far from shore, facilitating more comprehensive resource exploration and infrastructure planning.

  • Hydrographic Surveys: Cellula’s AUVs can conduct extensive bathymetric mapping and underwater topography surveys, improving the accuracy of navigation charts and coastal planning with minimal operational downtime. Their ability to cover large expanses of the ocean with high precision allows for cost-effective, continuous hydrographic data acquisition, especially in remote or poorly charted regions.

  • Environmental Surveys: Envoy and Porter AUVs can cover large marine ecosystems, providing real-time environmental monitoring for prolonged periods while minimizing human interference and operational costs. These AUVs are ideal for establishing baselines and tracking the health of ecosystems, such as coral reefs and deep-sea habitats, by collecting consistent, long-term data from hard-to-reach areas, supporting effective conservation efforts.

Inspection & Monitoring

  • Asset Integrity Inspection and Maintenance: The exceptional range and endurance offered by Cellula’s AUVs enables detailed, long-duration inspections of subsea assets, enabling the detection of damage or degradation in hard-to-reach locations, all while minimizing operational disruptions. AUVs can continuously monitor the health of subsea assets over long periods, providing consistent, real-time data for predictive maintenance and reducing the frequency of expensive in-person inspections.

  • Pipeline Survey and Monitoring: The Envoy and Porter can facilitate long-term monitoring of subsea pipelines, enabling the detection of leaks, corrosion, or structural damage across vast distances without the need for frequent re-deployment. These AUVs can also perform detailed surveys of extensive pipeline networks, significantly lowering costs and operational risks by reducing the frequency of manned vessel inspections and ensuring uninterrupted, accurate data collection over time.

Payload Deployment & Retrival

  • Payload Operations: Both the Porter and Envoy AUVs are equipped with large, flooded payload pays that can be used to cost-effectively deploy a wide variety of payloads to remote areas and offshore energy fields. Example payloads include, but are not limited to, seismic nodes and remote sensor nodes.

  • Energy Re-supply: The Porter AUV can deliver and replenish a remote subsea power station thereby enabling in-field assets and resident vehicles to operate onsite without the need for refuelling or resurfacing thus increasing operational uptime while decreasing costs through a lessened reliance on resupply vessels.
